‘Doing Good, in Service of The Common Good’

On the occasion of Holy Week and Easter, statesman Lyndon LaRouche more than once wrote of the mission of all mankind. On March 29, 2002, he addressed it in his, “Easter, A Time For Reflection,” a substantial work, beginning with the question, that “Now, in a time of great menace … How should all peoples, of whatever religious profession, from around the world, view the leading developments of these days?” What should we do? After in-depth consideration, he wrote, "To sum up the point to be emphasized on this occasion, consider the following:

“The doctrine of the immortality of the soul has a rich history, from Plato’s Socratic dialogues, through the role of the same Platonic notion of the term agapē expressed summarily by Paul’s I Corinthians 13, and permeating the Gospel of John. It is the concept, translated as promotion of the general welfare of present and future generations, in the U.S. Constitution, and, otherwise, the notion of doing good in service of the common good.”

The Moral Fitness To Survive

Increasingly, around the world, nations and individuals are asking if the United States, the Western world generally, has the moral fitness to survive. NATO is mobilizing forces for a war with Russia, and declaring itself no longer an “Atlantic” defense institution, but a global force that will confront China militarily, as well as Russia. Of course, neither Russia nor China is in any way threatening anyone outside their borders, but then, neither was Iraq, nor Libya, nor Syria, nor Yemen. And yet, Iraq and Libya and Syria, three of the most developed and productive states in Southwest Asia, have been bombed into oblivion, and the Western forces responsible have done nothing to help in reconstruction—to the contrary, Mike Pompeo’s “Caesar Act” forbids any reconstruction of Syria, and will sanction any country which does so. The result is death and starvation, the most impoverished nation on Earth, according to the UN, although Yemen is perhaps worse, and is still suffering from a foreign war of terrorist destruction armed by the U.S., which is denying it food and fuel.

An 'Alliance for Development’ Can Succeed

Next Tuesday, April 6, based in Vienna, talks are slated to take place involving the principals of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to move things in some way out of the present danger zone, including the potential to lift the sanctions against Iran. This came out of an online meeting today, based in Vienna, among five of the original six JCPOA principals (the P-5 plus one)—China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and Germany, without the U.S.), and Iran, hosted by the European Union, which issued a statement on the April 6 meeting as the next step. The EU said the April 6 meeting will take place, “in order to clearly identify sanctions lifting and nuclear implementation measures, including through convening meetings of the relevant expert groups.” EU officials are to confer with the U.S. separately.
