The Capitol Police, granted an additional $2 billion in funding in May, is expanding its mission to "pivot towards an intelligence-based protective agency." It will be "opening Regional Field Offices in California and Florida with additional regions in the near future to investigate threats to Members of Congress."

The new creation of yet another federal law enforcement agency spreading across the country -- an agency that may not be subjected to the FOIA-style transparency of executive branch agencies -- provides the Congress with its own private police force.
